Life Begins

About six months ago there was a symposium in Chicago that was exploring the question, "When does life begin?"

The first speaker began, "Life begins at the moment of conception." He went on and on as to why that was the correct view.

The second speaker began, "Life does not begin until the fetus is viable." He too, went on and on as to why that was the correct view.

The two camps agued back and forth with no one changing their position. Finally, someone spoke up, "Perhaps if we had a clergyman's view that could help." They agreed that it wouldn't hurt, so they sent out a small committee that found a rabbi, lead him up to the podium. "All right, Rabbi, we want to hear from you. When does life begin?"

The rabbi paused, stroked his beard, "Life begins when the kids leave home and the dog dies."
