Tax "Season's Greetings" - Rosalind A. Schoenfeld, CPA
(with apologies to Edgar Allen Poe)

Now upon this midnight dreary
While I ponder weak and weary
Over many a quaint and curious tax return I've done before
While I nod and nearly napping
Think I hear a sudden tapping
As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my office door
'Tis some revenue agent I mutter
Only this and nothing more.

Ah distinctly I remember
It was only last November
When he disallowed expenses for a trip to Cote D'Or
Then he tallied gains and losses
Disallowed the loss on hosses
And the lunch you bought the bosses
With martinis three or four
Eighty percent and nothing more.

1993 UPDATE

Tax law changes, tax increases
Even after one deceases
Retroactive rates displease us-
Higher than we planned before

New entertaining limitations
Contributions valuations
Next year's taxes estimations
Search for revenues galore
For the future what's in store?

Health insurance barring none
Tax on that not yet begun
Gas tax reaches everyone
As the payroll taxes soar
Who now really knows the score

After all is said and done
Will there be a tax on fun
Will we lose, or have we won
One plus one now equals four
Tax returns forever more!
